Lige efter 1. verdenskrig forsøgte belgierne at indlemme Nederland Limburg i Belgien. Det skete under forhandlingerne mellem "vinderne af 1. verdenskrig" i Quay d'Orsay i 1919. De ønskede både at indlemme Zeeuws-Vlaanderen og nederlandske Limburg. "Begge områder hører historisk, sprogligt og kulturelt til Flandern," lyder argumentet. Det var blot en historisk fejl fra fortiden, der skulle rettes, mente man fra den belgiske side. Men den "fest" fandt ikke sted...
