På stedet for den nuværende kirke har der fra omkring det 11. århundrede stået en kirke af torvsten med et saddeltagstårn. Tårnet blev i 1819 ombygget til det nuværende tårn med spids. I 1883 blev resten af den gamle kirke revet ned og genopbygget. Bygningen af den nye kirke kostede f.7.155,10 (gylden).
