Op de plaats van de huidige kerk heeft vanaf ongeveer de elfde eeuw al een turfstenen kerkje gestaan met een zadeldaktoren. De toren is in 1819 verbouwd tot de huidige toren met spits. In 1883 is de rest van de oude kerk afgebroken en herbouwd. De bouw van de nieuwe kerk koste f.7.155,10 (gulden).
