Jopie Huisman var en hollandsk autodidakt maler og skrammelmand. I løbet af sit liv blev han kendt for sine omhyggelige og realistiske malerier. Huisman nægtede at sælge nogen af sine malerier. Den 11. april 1986 åbnede Huisman sit eget museum. Jopie Huisman blev født den 18. oktober 1922 i Workum, Friesland. I 1939 blev han keramikmaler ved stentøjsfabrikken Aurora. I 1942 blev han arresteret under en razzia og sat i arbejde i en arbejdslejr i Kassel, Tyskland. En dag kiggede han på himlen og troede, han så en flok gæs. Pludselig kollapsede fabrikken ved siden af. Bombardementet af Kassel var begyndt. Huisman formåede at undslippe fra lejren og fandt tilflugt i Workum. I 1949 giftede han sig med Eelkje de Boer, startede en forretning og en familie.
