På den nuværende placering blev der i 1784 bygget en mølle, som efter branden i 1857 blev genopbygget. I 1955 blev det oprindelige indre arbejde fjernet og erstattet af en installation til elproduktion. Under ledelse af ingeniør Baggerman blev der set på, i hvilken grad vindmøller kunne bidrage til produktionen af elektricitet. Til dette blev maasværket fjernet fra møllen. Det viste sig dog ikke at være en succes, og Frederik van Mulligen lod i 1964 genplacere malerarbejdet og restaurere møllen, før han overgav den til sin søn Jan, den sidste i møllerdynastiet på "De Zwaluw".
