Den Permanente Domstol for International Ret blev oprettet i 1920 som et organ af Folkeforbundet. Det var forløberen for Den Internationale Domstol. Den Permanente Domstol for International Ret havde beføjelse til at behandle alle internationale tvister, som medlemsstaterne i Folkeforbundet ønskede at forelægge for Domstolen. Den havde også en rådgivende funktion om hvert punkt, som Rådet eller Generalforsamlingen af Folkeforbundet drøftede.
