Den 1. januar 1991 blev denne kommune dannet ved fusionen af kommunerne Roggel og Neer. Den 1. januar 2007 blev kommunen Roggel og Neer slået sammen med kommunerne Heythuysen, Haelen og Hunsel til en ny kommune. De fire kommuner valgte Leudal som navnet på den nye kommune.
I de 16 år, denne kommune eksisterede, var Sjef Peeters borgmester; han havde dog været det siden oktober 2003 på grund af opnåelse af pensionsalderen som fungerende borgmester.
