Et blik ind i fortiden af Kasteel Nijenborgh og Weert
Byggeriet af Kasteel Nijenborgh begyndte i 1455 på bestilling af Jacob I van Horne, herre af Weert. Slottet afløste den gamle Aldenborgh og fungerede som administrationscenter for grevskabet Horne. Borgen bestod af en imponerende hovedborg med firkantede tårne og en voldgrav, samt en forborg med forskellige tjenestebygninger.
