I 2008 gravede arbejdere i Ground Zero og opdagede et kæmpe hul. Det hul var udskåret i klippeunderlaget og havde intet at gøre med bygningen eller bygningens sammenbrud relateret til 9-11. Kilden til dette kæmpe hul blev forårsaget af en gletscher for mere end 10.000 år siden. Den sidste istid begyndte for cirka 120.000 år siden. Gletsjeren var omkring 3 km tyk, og kanten nåede Manhattan. Da istiden var ved at afslutte sig for cirka 20.000 år siden, flød enorme mængder smeltevand, der bar affald, ned ad gletsjeren og ramte klippeunderlaget. Dette skaber på et specifikt punkt 'Gletschertopfs' eller 'Kæmpens kedler'.
