En 2008, los trabajadores estaban excavando en Ground Zero y descubrieron un enorme bache. Ese bache estaba tallado en la roca madre y no tenía nada que ver con el edificio o el colapso del edificio relacionado con el 11 de septiembre. La fuente de este enorme bache fue causada por un glaciar hace más de 10,000 años. La última era glacial comenzó hace unos 120,000 años. El glaciar tenía aproximadamente 3 km de grosor y el borde llegaba a Manhattan. Cuando la era glacial estaba llegando a su fin hace unos 20,000 años, una enorme cantidad de agua derretida que llevaba escombros inundaba el glaciar y golpeaba la roca madre. Esto crea en un punto específico 'Gletschertopfs' o 'calderas de los gigantes'.
