Der Ort Katsdorf liegt auf 306 Meter Höhe im Mühlviertel. Die Ausdehnung der Gemeinde beträgt von Nord nach Süd 4,6 und von West nach Ost 5,5 Kilometer. Die Gesamtfläche umfasst 14,66 Quadratkilometer. Davon sind 11 Prozent bewaldet, 74 Prozent werden landwirtschaftlich genutzt.Erstmals wird der Ort als Chazilinistorf im Jahr 1125 urkundlich genannt. Die Herren von Chazilinisdorf wohnten damals am Burgstall Wolfsbach.
