Windischgarsten ist eine Marktgemeinde im österreichischen Bundesland Oberösterreich im Süden des Bezirks Kirchdorf im Traunviertel mit 2397 Einwohnern . Seit 1964 ist Windischgarsten Luftkurort und hat einen historischen Ortskern.Windischgarsten liegt auf 602 m Höhe im Traunviertel, im Windischgarstner Becken, umrahmt von den Bergen der Haller Mauern im Süden , des Sengsengebirges im Norden am Rande des Nationalparks Kalkalpen und des Toten Gebirges im Westen . Windischgarsten gehört zur Tourismusregion Pyhrn-Priel und verfügt wegen seiner Lage an der über-regionalen Nord-Süd-Verkehrsverbindung durch die Alpen über eine gute Verkehrsanbindung – sowohl per Auto über die Pyhrn Autobahn A 9 als auch per Bahn über die Pyhrnbahn.
