Die Gemeinde liegt im Gerichtsbezirk Ried im Innkreis.Lohnsburg liegt im Innviertel, an der Nordabdachung des Kobernaußerwaldes. Der Hauptort liegt auf 523 m Höhe. Die Ausdehnung der Gemeinde beträgt von Nord nach Süd 14,3 km, von West nach Ost 10 km, die Gesamtfläche 39,5 km². 48,1 % der Fläche sind bewaldet, 45,8 % der Fläche sind landwirtschaftlich genutzt.
