Das Akademische Gymnasium Graz ist eine der ältesten Schulen im deutschen Sprachraum, die älteste höhere Schule der Steiermark und nach den Akademischen Gymnasien in Linz, Wien und Innsbruck das viertälteste der fünf Akademischen Gymnasien in Österreich.Die Schule wurde am 12. November 1573 im Zuge der Gegenreformation als Jesuitenkollegium in Graz gegründet. Sie diente als Vorstufe zur am 1. Jänner 1585 neu gegründeten Universität Graz .
