Das Fort Eben-Emael wurde zwischen dem Ersten und dem Zweiten Weltkrieg erbaut und galt als das stärkste Fort der Welt. Die deutschen Angreifer gelangten jedoch im Zweiten Weltkrieg in Rekordzeit von einer Viertelstunde dazu, das Fort außer Betrieb zu setzen, und nach eineinhalb Tagen Belagerung musste das Fort kapitulieren.
Das Fort Eben-Emael wurde als Kulisse in der TV-Serie "De Smaak van de Keyser" verwendet. Alfred und George kommen hier 1939 nach ihrer Mobilisierung, als die Deutschen das Fort einnehmen.
