La Fortaleza de Eben-Emael fue construida entre la Primera y la Segunda Guerra Mundial y se consideraba la fortaleza más fuerte del mundo. Sin embargo, los atacantes alemanes lograron desactivar la fortaleza en tiempo récord, en quince minutos, y después de un día y medio de asedio, la fortaleza tuvo que capitular.
La Fortaleza de Eben-Emael fue utilizada como decorado en la serie de televisión "El Sabor del Keyser". Alfred y George llegan aquí en 1939, después de su movilización, cuando los alemanes toman la fortaleza.
