Das Sas liegt am stromabwärts gelegenen Sandablagerung der Alten Schelde. Das alte Sas regelt die Entwässerung der Alten Schelde und verhindert, dass salzhaltiges Scheldewasser eindringt. Das Sas wurde 1592 erbaut und ist damit das älteste wasserbautechnische Denkmal in Flandern.
