General Jean-Baptiste Jules Bernadotte, später Marschall in Napoleons Armee, wählte während der Belagerung von Maastricht durch die französischen Revolutions-Truppen im Jahr 1794, während des Ersten Koalitionskrieges, das Schloss von Leut als Residenz. Bernadotte wurde als Karl XIV. Johan von Schweden Stifter des heutigen schwedischen Königshauses.
