Il existe un lien entre le château de Leut et la famille royale suédoise. Le général Jean-Baptiste Jules Bernadotte, plus tard maréchal dans l'armée de Napoléon, a choisi le château de Leut comme résidence lors du siège de Maastricht par les troupes révolutionnaires françaises en 1794, pendant la Première Guerre de la Coalition. Bernadotte est devenu Charles XIV Jean de Suède, fondateur de la famille royale suédoise actuelle.
