Hay un vínculo entre el castillo de Leut y la familia real sueca. El general Jean-Baptiste Jules Bernadotte, más tarde mariscal en el ejército de Napoleón, eligió el castillo de Leut como residencia durante el asedio de Maastricht por las tropas revolucionarias francesas en 1794, durante la Primera Guerra de Coalición. Bernadotte se convirtió en Carlos XIV Juan de Suecia, fundador de la actual familia real sueca.
