Im Jahr 2018 werden im Provinzgebiet De Palingbeek in Ypern 600.000 Figuren aufgestellt, ein Konzept des Künstlers Koen Vanmechelen. Diese Installation erstreckt sich über das Niemandsland und The Bluff, einen der am stärksten umkämpften Orte des Ersten Weltkriegs. Zehntausende Menschen aus Flandern und dem Rest der Welt haben daran mitgewirkt. Zu jeder Figur gehört ein Hundemarke, das universelle Identifikationssystem für Frontsoldaten. Die Hundemarken kombinieren jeweils den Namen eines Kriegsopfers mit dem Namen eines Erstellers einer Figur. Jede Hundemarke verbindet so wörtlich die Vergangenheit mit der Gegenwart.
