In der Markgavelei fahren Sie an der St. Laurentiuskirche, einer der bemerkenswerteren Kirchen Antwerpens, vorbei. Obwohl der Vergleich hinkt, erinnert das Gebäude in gewisser Weise an die Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. Die Kirche wurde nämlich im neobyzanthinischen Baustil errichtet.
An diesem schönen Ort kann man aber noch mehr erleben und in Café Kamiel oder der gegenüberliegenden Taverne De Grave Hunger und Durst stillen. Gleich um die Ecke liegt die Brennerei F.X. de Beukelaer. Dort wird der feine Kräuterlikör Elixir d’Anvers gebrannt.
