In de Markgavelei passeer je een van de meer opmerkelijke kerken van Antwerpen: de Sint-Laurentiuskerk. De vergelijking is lichtjes overdreven, maar het bouwwerk doet wat aan de Hagia Sophia in Istanbul denken. Het is dan ook gebouwd in de neo-Byzantijnse stijl. Op deze fijne plek valt wel meer te beleven. Café Kamiel en overbuur Taverne De Grave geven honger en dorst geen kans. Het Hof van Leysen is een alleraardigst buurtparkje. En om de hoek vind je F.X. de Beukelaer, de stokerij waar de verfijnde Elixir d’Anvers ontstaat.
