Ursprünglich war eine Autobahn durch dieses Gebiet geplant. 1977 beschloss die Gemeinde Jette jedoch, einen Park im Molenbeektal anzulegen. Dieser Park sollte den Laarbeekwald, die Moore von Jette und Ganshoren, den Poelwald, den Dieleghembos und den Heilig-Herz-Garten miteinander verbinden. Mit der Fertigstellung der dritten Phase im Jahr 1989 wurde dieses Ziel tatsächlich erreicht. Durch die Verbindung aller Grünflächen wollte man eine nördliche Entsprechung zum Terkamerenwald und dem Sonianwald im Süden sowie zu den Parks im Woluwe-Tal im Osten von Brüssel schaffen. Anlässlich des 150. Jahrestages der Monarchie im Jahr 1980 wurde der Park nach König Baudouin benannt.
