Über seine Inspiration für diesen Platz erzählt Bas Smets Folgendes. Die Linien stammen von der Piazza del Campo in Siena. Auf die Frage, warum nicht zu viele Bäume auf dem Platz stehen dürfen, antwortete er: „Um die außergewöhnliche Qualität der Fassaden zur Geltung zu bringen“.
