Der Bahnhof wurde 1856 an der neuen Eisenbahnlinie zwischen Hasselt und Maastricht eröffnet. Ab Ende der 1950er Jahre verlor der Bahnhof an Bedeutung und wurde geschlossen.
Nachdem 1973 das Limburgs Universitair Centrum in der Nähe des früheren Bahnhofs gegründet wurde, gab es aufgrund der Studenten eine steigende Nachfrage, den Bahnhof wieder zu eröffnen. Dies geschah schließlich 1991, als an der Stelle des früheren Bahnhofs eine Haltestelle eröffnet wurde.
