Stationet blev åbnet i 1856 langs den nye jernbanelinie mellem Hasselt og Maastricht. Fra slutningen af 1950'erne mistede stationet betydning og blev lukket.
Efter at det Limburgske Universitetscenter blev oprettet i nærheden af den tidligere station i 1973, var der en stigende efterspørgsel fra studenterne om at genåbne stationet. Dette skete endelig i 1991, da der blev åbnet en stoppested på stedet for den tidligere station.
