Sint-Maria-Latem war eine Gemeinde, die nach der administrativen Neuordnung von 1971 mit der neuen Einheit Zwalm fusionierte. Sie befindet sich in der Provinz Ostflandern in der flämischen Region Belgien. Im Jahr 2001 hatte sie 629 Einwohner. Die erste schriftliche Erwähnung von Laethem stammt aus dem Jahr 820. Im Jahr 1175-1176 übertrug das Kapitel von Kamerijk das Patronat an die Abtei St. Bavo in Gent. Das Dorf Sint-Maria-Latem gehörte zur Baronie von Gavere, die unter der Herrschaft von Karl V. zu einem Fürstentum in der Castellanei des Landes Aalst wurde.
