Grembergen ist ein Dorf in der belgischen Provinz Ostflandern und seit 1977 ein Stadtteil von Dendermonde. Grembergen liegt in der Denderregion an der Schelde, am linken Ufer; Dendermonde selbst und die anderen Stadtteile liegen südlich des Flusses am anderen Ufer.
In administrativer und kirchlicher Hinsicht fällt die früheste Geschichte von Grembergen mit der von Zele zusammen. Die Bezeichnung 'Grenberga' taucht in öffentlichen Schriften erstmals im Jahr 1019 auf. Grend ist verwandt mit Kies oder Kies, was für Kiesel sand steht. Grembergen bedeutet also Sandhügel oder Kieselhügel. Diese Anspielung auf Sandhügel finden wir heute auch noch in der Benennung der Weiler 'Klein Zand' und 'Groot Zand' in Grembergen.
