Im Jahr 1674 kam eine Abteilung von Deutschen und Holländern nach Mazenzele, um zu plündern. Sie standen jedoch "auf unserer" Seite, gegen den französischen Besatzer. Aber das stellte sich als relativ heraus. Die Kirche wurde in Brand gesteckt und ein Teil der Häuser niedergebrannt. Das gesamte Vieh wurde getötet, und das alles, weil die Franzosen bei ihrem Durchmarsch nichts mehr im Dorf finden sollten. Das Hauptquartier der holländischen und deutschen Armeen befand sich in der Abtei von Affligem.
Diese Armeen hingen hier noch ein wenig nach der blutigen Schlacht von Seneffe am 18. August 1674 herum.
