In het jaar 1674 kwam een afdeling Duitsers en Hollanders Mazenzele plunderen. Die stonden nochtans aan "onze" kant, tegen de Franse bezetter. Maar dat bleek relatief te zijn. De kerk werd in brand gestoken en een deel van de huizen platbranden. Al het vee werd gedood en dat alles omdat de Fransen bij hun doortocht niets meer zouden vinden in het dorp. Het hoofdkwartier van de Hollandse en Duitse legers lag in de Abdij van Affligem.
Die legers waren hier nog een beetje aan het rondhangen na de bloedige Slag van Seneffe op 18 augustus 1674.
