En l'année 1674, une section de Allemands et de Hollandais est venue piller Mazenzele. Pourtant, ils étaient du "notre" côté, contre l'occupant français. Mais cela s'est révélé relatif. L'église a été incendiée et une partie des maisons a été brûlée. Tout le bétail a été tué et tout cela parce que les Français ne voudraient rien trouver dans le village lors de leur passage. Le quartier général des armées hollandaises et allemandes se trouvait dans l'Abbatiale d'Affligem.
Ces armées traînaient encore un peu ici après la sanglante Bataille de Seneffe le 18 août 1674.
