Der Bahnhof Aalst wurde am 9. Juni 1853 in der ostflämischen Stadt Aalst von der Gesellschaft Dender und Waas an der Bahnlinie 57 eröffnet. Am 7. April 1855 wurde er ein Bahnhof an der Bahnlinie 50. Am 1. Juni 1876 wurde Aalst über Burst mit Zottegem über die Bahnlinie 82 verbunden. Diese Strecke wurde später bis Ronse verlängert. Am 12. Oktober 1879 folgte die Verbindung nach Antwerpen über die Bahnlinie 61.
