Der Congoberg verweist auf die vielen Hauer und Bergleute, die ungewaschen aus der Steinkohlegrube und noch schwarz wie Öl (vom französischen houille = Steinkohle) zu ihren Familien zurückkehrten. Vollezele zählte viele Bergleute, die mit dem Zug (Bahnlinie 123) zu den wallonischen Minen fuhren. Die Mehrheit der Kohleschneider wohnte im armen Weiler Achterdenbos.
