Barchon war bis 1878 ein Weiler der Gemeinde Cheratte. Danach wurde es eine eigenständige Gemeinde, bis es 1977 mit Blegny vereinigt wurde.
Barchon hatte stark unter dem deutschen Vormarsch durch Belgien während des Ersten Weltkriegs zu leiden, wobei 100 Häuser zerstört und 32 Bürger ermordet wurden.
