Die Burg
Die Burg auf dem von der Semois umflossenen Felskamm ist nicht die erste an dieser Stelle. Auf einem Felsvorsprung wurde zuerst eine klassische Erdhügelburg gebaut.
1082 errichtete Gottfried von Bouillon einen zweiten Bergfried. Vor seinem Aufbruch zum Kreuzzug verkaufte er die Burg an den Bischof von Lüttich.
In jüngerer Zeit wurde die Burg vor allem unter dem Einfluss von Vauban während der französischen Besatzung renoviert: Es wurde an der Vorburg, den Kasernen, dem Arsenal und dem Pulvermagazin gearbeitet.
Unter holländischer Herrschaft wurde der Bergfried 1824 zerstört, um für weitere Kasernen Platz zu machen, aber 1853 gab man den Militärstandort auf.
Daraufhin wurde die Burg schnell ein bei Touristen sehr beliebtes Ziel.
