Der Schijn ist nicht das einzige Wasserelement in der Landschaft. Es gibt auch zahlreiche Tümpel und Teiche, aber noch weiter südlich ist auch ein Rest des Herentalse Vaart zu finden. Dies ist ein Kanal, der 1490 als Abzweigung des Groot Schijn gegraben wurde. Der Herentalse Vaart floss von Wommelgem zum damaligen Stadtzentrum von Antwerpen. Der Bau war notwendig, um genügend Süßwasser in die alte Stadt zu bringen. 1930 wurde der größte Teil des Kanals überdeckt und ein Stück abgetrennt. Heute ist der Kanal vollständig vom Schijn abgetrennt. Der Abschnitt im Rivierenhof ist das letzte Reststück und steht aufgrund seines historischen Wertes unter Schutz. Der Herentalse Vaart liegt an dem Steilhang der Autobahn E34/E313, die an der südlichen Seite das Rivierenhof abschirmt.
