Leffe ist ein Stadtviertel der belgischen Stadt Dinant, am rechten Ufer der Maas an der Mündung des Fond de Leffe. Im Mittelalter war es eine Enklave des Grafentums Namur innerhalb des Fürstentums Lüttich. Von dem 19. Jahrhundert bis zur Textilkrise der 1960er Jahre war es ein wichtiges Zentrum der Textilindustrie. Zu Beginn des Ersten Weltkriegs, am 23. August 1914, ließ die deutsche Kaiserliche Armee dort 147 Arbeiter und den Direktor der Firma Manufacture de Tissus ohne großen Grund erschießen. Insgesamt wurden in Dinant 679 Personen von den Deutschen ermordet, in einem Versuch, durch den Terror jeden Widerstandswillen im Umfeld der strategisch wichtigen Maasbrücke für die Invasion in Frankreich zu brechen. Viele Frauen und Kinder fanden Zuflucht in der Abtei der Heiligsten Jungfrau.
