Das Haus der Europäischen Geschichte beruht auf einer Initiative des Europäischen Parlaments. Als kulturelle Einrichtung und Museum soll es alle zur Verfügung stehenden Mittel – angefangen bei einer Dauerausstellung sowie Wechsel- und Wanderausstellungen über eine Sammlung von Objekten und Dokumenten, die für die europäische Geschichte stehen, bis hin zu Bildungsprogrammen, Kulturveranstaltungen und Veröffentlichungen sowie vielfältige Online-Inhalte – für ein besseres Verständnis der europäischen Geschichte und Integration einsetzen. Es liegt im Europaviertel in Brüssel, in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Europäischen Parlament. Die Leitung hat die deutsche Kunsthistorikerin Constanze Itzel.
