Der Ort, an dem der Steg der Fähre in Sint-Amands liegt, ist bereits von weitem an der Statue 'Der Fähmann' des Bildhauers Marc Macken (1913-1977) zu erkennen und verweist auf das gleichnamige Gedicht des französischsprachigen flämischen Dichters Emile Verhaeren ('Le Passeur d'eau').
Es wurde am 27. November 1966 der Gemeinde Sint-Amands geschenkt anlässlich des 50. Jahrestages des Todes von Emile Verhaeren, der in Sint-Amands geboren wurde.
