El lugar donde se encuentra el embarcadero del ferry en Sint-Amands ya es reconocible de lejos por la estatua 'El Barquero' del escultor Marc Macken (1913-1977) y hace referencia al poema del mismo nombre del poeta flamenco de lengua francesa Emile Verhaeren ('Le Passeur d'eau').
Fue donado al municipio de Sint-Amands el 27 de noviembre de 1966 con motivo del 50 aniversario de la muerte de Emile Verhaeren, quien nació en Sint-Amands.
