Im Jahr 2011 ehrte Natuurpunt (Abteilung Wielewaal) zusammen mit dem Kern Katelijne den Waverwald: Brede Zeyp bildet zusammen mit einigen Waldkomplexen in Onze Lieve Vrouw Waver und Sint Katelijne Waver einige Fragmente von dem, was einst ein echter Waverwald war. Dieses große Waldgebiet gehörte bis etwa 1470 der Familie Van Wezemael und war damals 300 ha groß. Da es keine Erben gab, fiel das gesamte Gebiet an den Staat, der damals unter der spanischen Krone stand. Wahrscheinlich wurden die Wälder deshalb damals Königswälder genannt. Auf der Ferraris-Karte wird Brede Zeyp als Bois Den Sype dargestellt.
