Hellegat ist ein Weiler in der belgischen Gemeinde Niel, in der Provinz Antwerpen. Hellegat liegt im Süden der Gemeinde an der Rupel und grenzt an die Gemeinde Boom.
Der Name Hellegat stammt wahrscheinlich einerseits von Hella, der Göttin der Unterwelt. Das Suffix -gat andererseits bedeutet "Öffnung" oder "Zugang zu etwas"; zudem wurde es in der alten Sprache auch als Mündung eines kleineren Flusses oder Bachs in einen größeren verwendet. Im Fall von Hellegat wird diese These geografisch durch die Mündung des Hellebeek auf der anderen Seite der Rupel in diesen Fluss untermauert.
