Hellegat es un núcleo de población en el municipio belga de Niel, en la provincia de Amberes. Hellegat se encuentra en el sur del municipio junto al Rupel y limita con el municipio de Boom.
El nombre Hellegat se deriva, por un lado, de Hella, diosa del inframundo. El sufijo -gat, por otro lado, significa "apertura" o "acceso a algo", además, se usó en el antiguo idioma como desembocadura de un río o arroyo más pequeño en uno mayor. En el caso de Hellegat, esta afirmación se ve geográficamente respaldada por la desembocadura del Hellebeek al otro lado del Rupel en este río.
