An dieser Stelle sind die Kanalränder noch mit niedriger Vegetation bewachsen, wo viele Tierarten (Insekten, Vögel, kleine Säugetiere usw.) kurz verschnaufen können. Diese Natur in der unmittelbaren Umgebung des Kanals verstärkt die Funktion des Kanals als ökologische Korridor, als Migrationskorridor und als Verbindung zwischen grünen Räumen. Zwei Kilometer flussabwärts, ab dem Biestebroekdok, endet die Uferbewachsung endgültig. Erst etwa zehn Kilometer weiter, bei Neder-Over-Heembeek, färben sich die Ufer wieder grün.
