En este lugar, las orillas del canal aún están cubiertas por una vegetación baja, donde varias especies de animales (insectos, aves, pequeños mamíferos, etc.) pueden descansar un momento. Esa naturaleza en las inmediaciones del canal refuerza el papel del canal como corredor ecológico, como corredor de migración y como conexión entre espacios verdes. Dos kilómetros río abajo, desde el Biestebroekdok, la vegetación ribereña se detiene definitivamente. Solo unos diez kilómetros más adelante, en Neder-Over-Heembeek, las orillas vuelven a ser verdes.
