Mielen-boven-Aalst ist ein Stadtteil von Gingelom und war bis 1971 eine eigenständige Gemeinde. Danach war es bis 1977 ein Stadtteil von Borlo. Mielen wurde erstmals 1109 als 'Mile' erwähnt. 1529 war von 'Mielen Supra Aelst' die Rede. Mit Aalst ist das nahegelegene Dorf 'Aalst' gemeint. Vermutlich gehörte Mielen zum Gebiet der Abtei von Saint-Trond und wurde später dem Fürstbistum Lüttich angegliedert. Mielen liegt im Dry-Haspengouw auf einer Höhe von etwa 100 Metern.
