Clare De Vos ist bekannt als die Hexe von Nokere. Sie wurde im Buch von Marc De Bel verewigt: "Nelle, die Hexe von Cruysem". Nelle war das Nichten von Tante Clara.
Clara oder Calare De Vos wurde um 1576 in Nokere geboren. Sie wächst in unruhigen Zeiten auf. Flandern gehört zum spanischen Reich. Regelmäßig wurde hier geplündert, gab es Missernten und andere Katastrophen. Auch die Entvölkerung schlägt in Nokere zu. Im Jahr 1600 gibt es kaum noch 307 Seelen. Wie immer suchen die Menschen nach Ursachen und Erklärungen für all dieses Unglück. Und Clara De Vos steht im Mittelpunkt.
Im Jahr 1634 war Clara De Vos 58 Jahre alt und unverheiratet. Sie wurde von ihren zwei Schwagern, die zufällig Schulden bei ihr hatten, der Hexerei beschuldigt.
