Heute ist dieses schöne Gebäude Teil des Palastes des Erzbischofs . Die Gebäude sind durch eine überdachte Brücke verbunden. Der Palast des Erzbischofs ist für Besucher nicht geöffnet.
Die Äbte der Abteien und Klöster ließen bald Unterkünfte in den ummauerten Städten errichten. Sie können dort bleiben, wenn sie in der Stadt oder auf der Durchreise sind. Unterstände bieten auch Schutz in Kriegszeiten. Sint-Truiden Abbey Refuge wurde im 16. Jahrhundert von der Benediktinerabtei Sint-Truiden gegründet. Mit Verstand gesehen, weil sie so mit dem Erzbischof von Mechelen in Kontakt bleiben können.
In den anmutigen Turm, in dem Stare ihre Nester bauen, wurden Starentöpfe eingebaut . Bis ins 19. Jahrhundert war der Star eine echte Delikatesse.
