Airolo ist eine politische Gemeinde des Kantons Tessin in der Schweiz.
Die Gemeinde liegt im westlichsten Teil des Valle Leventina. Zur Gemeinde gehören neben der Hauptstadt Airolo auch die Dörfer Valle, Madrano, Brugnasco, Fontana, Nante und die unbewohnten Zentren Albinasca und Bedrina.
Airolo liegt am südlichen Eingang des wichtigen Gotthardtunnels. In der Folge verlaufen die Bahnlinie Basel-Chiasso und die Autobahn A2. Er ist zugleich Ausgangspunkt der Strasse, die über den 2108 Meter hohen Gotthardpass nach Andermatt im Kanton Uri führt. Nördlich der Stadt öffnet sich das unbewohnte Valle Canaria. Im Winter können Sie auf den Pisten des Pizzo Mezzogiorno (2503 m) Ski fahren und Langlaufen, Airolo verfügt über 30 Pistenkilometer. In der Sommersaison zieht der Ort viele Bergwanderer an.
